Two members of the SUBL team are now vaccinated against Covid-19! Jesenia Arias, our Executive Administrative Assistant, and Andrew Thomas, Jr., our Program Director, joined some of our clients recently to receive the shot.

In describing the experience, Jesenia told us it was “fast and with minimal pain… and that’s coming from someone terrified of needles!” She added: “I was definitely scared for no reason.”

Here in the Bronx, the Covid-19 positivity rate reached 7.6% last month. In the South Bronx neighborhood of Mott Haven, one out of every 11 people has been diagnosed with the virus. These numbers are chilling, but there is hope. New cases in the Bronx have decreased since January, as vaccination rates have risen. With over 27% of the Bronx population having received at least one vaccine dose, the outlook seems promising… as long as we all follow the example set by Jesenia and Andrew, that is!

Vaccination is an important part of helping our community recover from the city’s most severe Covid crisis. As of this writing, new groups have become eligible in New York City, in addition to groups that were already eligible. These groups include residents who are 50+ years old, as well as public-facing government, public, not-for-profit, and essential service workers.

For full, updated details on eligibility, please check in with the city website and state website.

There are many vaccination sites throughout the Bronx, including the Yankee Stadium megasite. This site is reserved specifically for Bronx residents. If you live in the Bronx and you are eligible, you can schedule an appointment by visiting somosvaccinations.com or calling 1-833-SOMOSNY. Somos is also running a variety of other vaccination sites, and available appointments can be accessed via the same website and phone number. The site is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. Additionally, the state has launched a pilot program to administer vaccines in overnight hours at Yankee Stadium.

New Yorkers Can Make Appointments at State-Run Vaccination Sites by Utilizing New York’s ‘Am I Eligible’ Tool or Calling 1-833-NYS-4-VAX

We encourage all Bronx residents who are eligible to make an appointment today. More than 3 million New Yorkers have received the Covid-19 vaccine, and it is safe, free and easy. Just ask Jesenia and Andrew!
