We’re pleased to announce we’ve awarded $20,000 to support Covid-19 relief efforts in The Bronx! The funds will go towards the distribution of hygiene packets and groceries for those in need. This includes shelter families, veterans, and seniors in our community. Additionally, the grant will support the New York City Housing Authority, and St. Paul’s Food Pantry.

Step Up’s donation, made to the NYC Police Auxiliary Foundation, funds a partnership of community groups and merchants working to continue critical food and hygiene assistance in Bronx Community Board 9.

Community Board 9 serves as an advocate, organizer, and venue for civic engagement for the largest Community District in the Bronx. CB9 strives to improve quality of life and ensure the best possible future for the following communities:

– Bronx River

– Bruckner

– Castle Hill

– Clason Point

– Harding Park

– Parkchester

-Park Stratton

– Soundview

– Unionport

The Auxiliary Police Foundation will work in Community Board 9 on three initiatives:

1) The monthly distribution of 500 hygiene packets through December to shelter families and veterans.

2) The monthly distribution of grocery bags to the NYC Housing Authority, shelters, veterans, and seniors through December.

3) The weekly distribution of grocery bags at St. Paul’s food pantry.

The food pantry, located at St. Paul’s Evangelical Church, has been in operation for 33 years. Every Friday morning, the pantry distributes groceries to those in our community who need them the most. But since the pandemic, demand has more than doubled.  St. Paul’s has also struggled to fund the program and staff the pantry with volunteers.

Community Board 9 has joined forces with the Auxiliary Foundation before. In April, they teamed up with RAP4BRONX, a program that collects and delivers supplies to those in need.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the generous support of folks like you.
